The Process

Egg Freezing

Eggs are retrieved from the ovaries via a out-patient procedure after ~2 weeks of hormonal stimulation. After screening, mature eggs are preserved through vitrification.

When ready, the eggs are thawed and fertilized in the future.

Embryo Freezing

Eggs are retrieved from the ovaries after ~2 weeks of hormonal stimulation. Mature eggs are fertilized and developed into embryos. They are then assessed and preserved through vitrification.

When ready, the embryos are thawed and used for pregnancy.

IVF

In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) describes the process and techniques of fertility treatment through hormonal stimulation, egg retrieval, fertilization and embryo transfer.

IVF typically does not involve vitrification and is about getting pregnant now.

About Sow Fertility

Following her fertility preservation endeavour in 2022, Dawn Chan identified a notable information void and a lack of community support for Asian women interested in elective egg or embryo freezing. With the insight gained from her journey and in collaboration with medical experts, she founded Sow Fertility in Hong Kong.

Sow Fertility provides OB-GYN-reviewed guidelines to alleviate the decisional conflict commonly faced by women on their fertility path and shares inspiring stories of women who have undergone treatment, aiming to encourage others towards action.
